The teacher who thought homeownership was years away

Client stories › First-time buyer

Sarah is a teacher. Like most teachers, she was incredible at what she did, but she didn't think buying a home was realistic. Every conversation she'd had before talking to us made it sound like she needed a huge down payment, perfect credit and thousands of dollars sitting in the bank. She figured she was still a few years away.

When we sat down together, we found something different. Because of the loan programs available to her, the amount she needed to bring to closing was far less than she'd been told. The conversation shifted from "someday" to "let's see what's possible."

A few weeks later we were touring homes. She wasn't looking for a mansion. She wanted room for her dog and a place that finally felt like hers. Then we found it: a charming home with mature trees, a quiet backyard and a short drive to the school where she teaches.

The day she got the keys, she stood in the empty living room and got emotional. Not because it was a perfect house, but because for the first time she wasn't paying someone else's mortgage. She was investing in her future.

That's one of my favorite parts of this business. Sometimes people don't need more time. They just need the right information.
